In Class Response: Flying Kites.

Recently in science we made kites to test whether or not they would fly. The material we used was construction paper to create these. This project was designed to go along with our weather lesson on wind. How does a kite actually fly though? The air is deflected downward, the momentum changes and forcing it to go upwards. That is because the air on the top of the kite is moving faster than the air passing underneath leaving the kite nowhere to go but up. The string attached helps the kite stay in place and not blow away anywhere the wind takes it. The drag and lift forces are what help keep kites in the air when wind is present.
